A brief story of The Well@Tangley…

St John’s gospel tells that Jesus, on his way to Galilee from Judea, stopped at noon by Jacob’s well in Sychar, Samaria. Tired and thirsty he sent his disciples into the village to buy food. He sat by the well where soon a woman came to draw water. He revealed himself as the Messiah for whom she and her people had been waiting and in whom she would find true refreshment and peace.

And here, in Tangley, that same tranquillity, sensed inside and around the church of St Thomas of Canterbury has drawn many to seek solace, resolution and affirmation.

The same need felt by the Samaritan woman hundreds of years ago has drawn others of all faiths and none and not regular churchgoers here to Tangley Church where they nevertheless found their way inside, where they encountered refreshment.

Written on the doors of the church are an invitation to all by Jesus… ‘Come unto me and I will refresh you.’
